The CEI Euskampus project started out as a Poles of Knowledge Community, eventually growing into a smart specialisation programme. The Poles of Knowledge are open spaces where stakeholders from diverse backgrounds can join forces to address social and global challenges, leveraging the scientific and technology capacity of the Euskampus consortium to design and implement collaborative training, research, knowledge transfer and outreach initiatives.
The deployment of the Poles comes about through the articulation of existing research structures and does not represent the constitution of new structures in the entities or superstructures between the consortium members, but rather fosters teamwork and open innovation between them. To do this, they use co-creation and design thinking methods to define the initiatives’ strategic approaches and road maps. The Poles of Knowledge Community was at the core of the Euskampus CEI project and drove the creation of the knowledge and innovation ecosystem promoted by Euskampus Fundazioa.
The Euskampus CEI project drew from 11 poles of knowledge.
When the CEI project was over, the hubs regrouped to form six new hubs, aimed at maximising the cooperative research and innovation contribution made to RIS3 Euskadi by the UPV/EHU – TECNALIA – DIPC consortium.
